Fall Pests in Central Florida

The summer rains are decreasing, there is a touch of Fall in the air and soon the temperature will cool down.  Seasonal changes also bring changes in insect and pest activity around your home.  Fall is the time of year for increase activity of ants, roaches and rodents.  Checking around your home and yard is key to maintaining a pest free environment.

  • Watch for heavy ant trails around walls and windows of the exterior of your home, and driveways and fences throughout your yard. Inside, look for activity in the kitchen and bathrooms, or around any water source.
  • Keep outdoor plants from touching the side of your house.  Pests are able to use tree limbs as a bridge into your home.  Check doors, windows, water spouts and roof edges for holes.  Rodents can get into your home through openings as small as a quarter.
  • Termites are active year-round in Florida, and Fall is the time of year you actually see their activity.  Usually, termites are happily munching away, undetected inside your walls.  In the Fall some species will swarm, as the colony separates to relocate and breed.
